After 5 Grammy Awards & 6 Platinum Records, Weird Al Yankovic is finally an Emmy Winner, thanks to his hilarious “totally real” biopic WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story! It’s a hilarious & supremely clever film, with a phenomenal lead performance from Daniel Radcliffe, and I’m so happy the film won Best TV Movie (even though it was made for cinemas).

This has been a long road coming, since the film first premiered the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022. I was able to attend the LA Premiere at Beyond Fest that year, with director Eric Appel & co-star Rainn Wilson attending. We even did a Weird Al costume contest!

For all us lifelong Weird Al fans, this was an incredible moment. I even hosted my own VHS screening of Al’s first film UHF at Whammy!

While the decision by Roku to submit it as a TV movie instead of giving it a theatrical release was disappointing, it did open the film up to the Emmys, where it received 8 nominations, including Daniel Radcliffe for Best Actor!

Maybe now, Weird Al can adapt the film to the stage, and finally win a Tony!
